This is the season that many people sit down and send out Christmas cards.
For many of us, this is the only time we contact some of our old friends and even some of our family.
Oh, we all want to, but we get caught up in the busyness of life. When Christmas time comes,
it causes us to stop and reflect on the “Reason for the season”, and then we remember the important things.
There is an old song called, "I'll Be Seeing You".
"I'll Be Seeing You"
By Irving Kahal & Sammy Fain
"I'll be seeing you in all the old familiar places
that this heart of mine embraces all day thru;
In that small cafe, the park across the way,
The children's carousel, the chestnut trees,
The wishing well."
"I'll be seeing you in every lovely summer's day,
In everything that's light and gay,
I'll always think of you that way,
I'll find you in the morning sun
And when the night is new
I'll be looking at the moon,
But I'll be seeing you!"
This was my Dad's favorite song, and because of this, I always remember him every time I look at the moon.
I like to think he looks down from heaven and remembers too.
My daughter once said, "Be careful what you say to Mom, she'll write a story or a song about it." I'm sorry,
but I couldn't resist. I wondered how many other people out there have someone
they would like to tell "I'll be seeing you_________"
I took some time recently and wrote to several friends and family members and told them
where I’ll always be seeing them. This holiday season, why not take the time to write a little personal note
in those Christmas cards and let those “special” people in your life know that you love them and
just how much they mean to you. Don’t be surprised if you get some wonderful notes back.
I promise you that your words will have an impact that will not soon be forgotten.
Here are a couple of excerpts of the first notes that I wrote:
To my friend, Shelia, "I'll Be Seeing You....
-when I see someone wave through the sunroof of a car
-when I see pink plastic flamingos...... I'll remember how we sneaked in and
planted them in a friend's yard
-When I see a pretty lady wearing a hat
-When I see big silver earrings that dangle
-When I hear the name Bubba or Cletus
-When I hear a bizarre story that seems unbelievable but could only happen to you ...remember your
missing cat that turned up at home one day, neutered?
-When I play "My God Is Real" on the piano (no one can sing it like you do)...
-when someone buys a large (Texas sized) sweetened ice tea or Dr. Pepper
-when I hear a Texas accent... "I won't" instead of "I want",
-Every time I read a funny greeting card
...But most of all I'll be seeing you....
-when I think of a wonderful, loyal friend
I love you, Shelia!!!
To My husband, Michael, I'll be seeing you.....
-under the hood of a car with grease all over you
-carrying tools, building a garage,
an addition to the house, a deck, bunk beds, or even a toy stove
& taking apart and fixing everything from toys to tractors
-putting together a motorcycle from a crate of parts
-building fence or cutting brush with a chain saw
-working two jobs and more to pay the bills
-holding your newborn child as if she might break
-holding little Julie's hand as she lights her first firecracker
-on horseback with Jeanna in front of you
-Jeremy walking behind you, putting his feet in your footprints as you till up the garden.
-teaching Justin how to drive a car
-playing "Dooley" on the guitar and everyone playing and singing along
-sitting at the computer either working or chasing monsters
-playing table games with your Mom and Dad
but most of all.....
-I see you explaining to your children “why” and trying to be an example they can follow
-I see you leading music at church
-I see you give to others who need it instead of paying off your own bills
-I see tears in your eyes when something happens to someone you care about or when you hold that brand new grandbaby
-I see you laugh and hear your big, deep, bass laughter
-I see you singing "The Lord's Prayer" at your daughter's wedding
-I see you always being there for me… "’til death do us part"
I love you,
To All of you reading this, I’ll be seeing you …
-taking the time to write those notes and cards to those you love
But most of all…
-I’ll be seeing you helping the less fortunate and remembering the REAL REASON for the season.
